How to Change Your Self-talk by Mary Remon

My journey to understand the power of self-talk started a long time ago.

When I was five, my dad lost his job and began the long process of building his own business. Times were hard for a while.

Years later, I asked him how he had lived through that difficult period, and he replied,

“I kept telling myself, ‘I’m good at this. I’ll show clients how good I am.”

Self-affirmations

Chances are, you’ve talked to yourself at a difficult time. You may have said, “I can get through this,” or “I have what it takes to succeed,” or “I bring out strengths in my team.” If so, you’re using what psychologists call positive self-talk or self-affirmations.

Research shows that self-affirmations actually cause positive changes in the pathways of the brain, with a measurable reduction in stress levels. By replacing self-defeating thought patterns with constructive thoughts and beliefs, we can, in turn, change our lives.

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” – Wayne Dyer

The Power of Self-talk or Self-affirmations

Today, we have new tools to amplify the power of affirmations.

One of the most effective ways to use positive self-talk is through an app I discovered called ThinkUp.

It’s a positive thinking app that allows you to record affirmations in your own voice and set them to music that is meaningful to you.

You can then listen to them regularly, especially at times when you may not have the strength to tell them to yourself.

My Top 5 Tips to Kick Your Self-affirmations Up a Notch

1. Jot down a short list of personal goals—for example, stop putting yourself down or start feeling more confident.
2. Word your affirmations in the present, as though you’re already there. For example, say, “I am confident.”
3. Say the words to yourself before you record your voice. If the words don’t feel right, change them until they do. For example, you might change “I am confident” to “I am becoming more confident every day.”
4. Record your affirmations, then listen to them as often as possible. By listening to your own voice, you can change your thought patterns.
5. Update your affirmations whenever it is helpful, to fit what you need at the moment.

There is nothing more powerful than hearing words of encouragement in your own voice. I tried it myself and experienced marked improvement in my overall well-being. I now use it as part of my counseling and executive life coaching practice and want to share it with everyone.

When used as part of life coaching or therapy, positive self-talk or self-affirmations can be life-altering. If you are in need of inspiration or guidance toward achieving your goals, leave a comment down below or get in touch with me (Sessions include customized affirmations!).

You can also download the ThinkUp app from the App Store or Google Play to get you started on some more general inspirations for positive self-talk.

ThinkUp Can Make You Feel Better

As the CEO of the company behind the ThinkUp app, a positive thinking app for developing a positive mindset, I have come across many exciting success stories.

For instance, I heard that the ThinkUp app has helped to reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety and change people’s self-talk.

Baby Jonathan: ThinkUp’s Most Touching Success Story

Recently, I heard about a family who arrived at Stanford hospital for necessary heart surgery for their infant child, Jonathan.

Just before the surgery, Jonathan had an infection. This complicated the situation and obviously made the parents stressed and terrified. Jonathan was put under anesthesia and connected to a respirator.

That day, I went to a conference, but I couldn’t focus. My mind was occupied with thoughts of Jonathan. Later, I decided to call the family. I wanted to be of help, although at that moment, I had no idea how I could do that.

Arriving at the Hospital

Once I arrived at the hospital, I saw two desperate parents who were desperately seeking any help that they could get. The situation was miserable. They needed a miracle.

In the beginning, I explained my specialty.

“I can make an audio recording for your child that can help give his body the power and strength that it needs,” I said.

At first, they looked at me as if I was talking about some magic. However, I explained to them that, the more positivity their child will hear, the more his brain will be able to help his body cope with his situation.

It is not a standalone tool, and I don’t really know the reasons why Jonathan woke up a week later. However, I do know that he is well now, feeling better than ever. Instead of listening to his crying mother, he heard her voice reassuring him.

The Recording

We sat there for almost an hour and recorded positive affirmations for little Jonathan’s beautiful meditation soundtrack.

Mommy and Daddy encouraged him with comforting phrases such as, “We love you, and need you to be strong for the family and for yourself. We would like to hug you and play with you again.”

When the parents heard the powerful affirmations combined with very soft and relaxing music after recording it, they started to cry.

In such an overwhelming situation, I think this was one of the only little hopes they had remaining.

He’s Feeling Better

Now baby Jonathan is feeling much better, and my heart is bursting with joy because I created a positive thinking app that can help people like Jonathan feel better.

And this is not the only story.

We have hundreds of successes ranging from losing 300 pounds to extraordinary recovery from cancer surgery.

I am grateful for this app. It changed and continues to change my life and that of many other people. Because of this, my mission is to spread this kind of positive self-talk to every corner of the world.

However, change begins with a community, so I can’t do it alone.

Please help us in this endeavor by joining our community of ThinkUp app users and helping spread the word about our app to revolutionize the lives of many people around the globe. Comment down below if you’re up for the challenge.

How to Use the ThinkUp App to Make Daily Affirmations Work for You

Would you like to make daily affirmations work for you?

We have normalized negative self-talk since we were little kids. We may have passively told ourselves we’re not good enough or we’re not pretty enough. This has stopped us from achieving our goals or becoming the person we want to be. Since our thoughts and mindset have a huge impact on health, happiness, motivation, and success, it is important to overcome this negativity.

An effective way to stop negativity is through daily affirmations and positive self-talk.

ThinkUp and Self-affirmations

ThinkUp is a positive-thinking app that lets you record powerful affirmations to help you change the way you think. By continuously practicing positive self-talk through the wide array of affirmations that ThinkUp offers, you can gradually overcome negativity and improve many aspects of your life.

Here are some effective ways to use the ThinkUp app to get results.

1. Select Affirmations from the Gratitude Category and Add it to Your List

If you desire to make daily affirmations work, select at least ten self-affirmations, from which a few should be from the Gratitude category and the rest from a category that best suits your goals.

When you are selecting your Gratitude daily affirmations, you will be focusing your mind on the things you already have. This will make you feel happier and more satisfied with your life and help you overcome challenges.

2. Record Self-affirmations in a Very Confident Way and Mean It!

For better results, select the daily self-affirmations or write your own and practice it aloud several times before recording them.

This will help you record them in a more confident voice. Try to record on a “good day”, because your brain remembers the time you recorded it.

It will encourage and uplift you automatically. When dealing with a stressful situation, your positive statements sessions will help you get out of the situation faster.

3. Practice Daily Affirmations

For success, follow the process!

Listen to your recorded positive affirmations regularly at least 15 minutes a day before going to bed or after waking up in the morning. ThinkUp’s positive morning affirmations would be perfect for this.

You can also do this while you’re cleaning the house or folding the laundry. It can be in the background while working or walking, as long as you listen to your affirmations every day.

If you find that one of your daily affirmations is creating tension or making you nervous, just revise them. Follow this simple process of repetition, listening, again and again, every day and successful results will follow.

4. Listen to the Same Set of Daily Self-affirmations for at Least 30 Days

Make a habit of listening to your daily affirmations.

When you listen to the same set of daily self-affirmations for 30 days, it will rewire your brain and make a huge difference in your life.

After 30 days you can choose other daily affirmations that uplift your spirit and encourage you.

Download the ThinkUp from the App Store or Google Play today and pick your first set of daily affirmations. Let us know if you found one that worked really well for you so the other members of the community can try it too.

Affirmations for Depression and Mental Health Issues by Joseph S. Fusaro

Some people underestimate what affirmations for depression can do for people struggling with mental health issues.

While they are not a magic pill that will cure feelings of loneliness, alienation, and confusion in an instant, they can serve as your first step towards recovery.

I am a living proof of it.

My Story

When I was younger, I had some depression and ADHD. When I was finishing college, I was officially diagnosed with depression, ADHD, and severe anxiety. This would last into my early 20’s.

I was prescribed several medications, some of which were controlled substances. It didn’t take long until I was dependent and addicted to these medications.

In 2007, I decided to enter a rehab facility since I felt powerless to the medications.

I went there because I was addicted to 2 medications. Ironically, I left this hospital after 3 weeks with 6 new prescriptions. These drugs would drain the life out of me for the next few months, so I switched back to the original medications because I figured that taking 2 meds was a lot better than taking 6.

The Struggle

I played this game with my body and mind up until I was 30.

The 2 controlled substances would eventually send me into a full-blown manic episode with spurts of psychosis. At this point, I had just been released from what I think was my 9th or 10th hospital stay. This made me realize that I could not live my life like this anymore.

Those symptoms of depression can’t live in me anymore. There had to be another way. I understood that I did need something for my bipolar disorder and insomnia, but I did not need to be on plenty of medications to numb me for the rest of my life.

The Breakthrough

Luckily, I was blessed with a doctor that taught me meditation. He taught me self-compassion. Most importantly, he taught me that I am worthy of love and that I deserve peace and happiness in my life as much as anyone else.

I honestly didn’t know that before.

I think that this is the problem for most people that live with a mental illness. We either lose our ability to love ourselves or aren’t born with the self-love that others already have or have developed naturally throughout their lives.

“Affirmations are about giving you the support and self-love you deserve”

First Step Towards Recovery

To be honest, I have always loved to write, so I started writing journal entries about gratitude, self-compassion, and “I am” statements.

I would go on to write 3 poetry books about my recovery. This lead to listening to affirmation tracks when I went for walks and meditated. I would even let them play for an hour or so when I was falling asleep.

I admit that at first it was difficult to accept that these positive things are true, but I felt that it was starting to help me with my depression. I had so much fear, anger, and resentment pent up inside me that I didn’t believe these affirmations, but I knew that I wanted to feel these things more than anything else in the world.

Affirmations for Depression and Staying on Track

Every time I listen to my affirmations for depression, things get easier.

Affirmations are not about tricking your mind into believing you are a good person. They are about giving you the support and self-love you deserve that is sometimes difficult to find from others. As we all know, the easiest way to change the world is from within.

About 6 months ago, I was considering creating my own affirmation tracks in my recording studio. I shared this idea with a friend and she enthusiastically blurted out, “ThinkUp App!”

She then went on to explain to me that she had been using this app to record powerful affirmations with her own voice and favorite music, then play them back later. Needless to say, I was thrilled. I went home, downloaded the ThinkUp App, and I have been using it since.

My Recommendations to Manage Symptoms of Depression

  1. Start slowly.
  2. Pick out one or two things that you would like to improve your life.
  3. Record self-affirmations that will remind you of where you are and where you aspire to be.
  4. Maybe in a week, re-record the same affirmations and see if there is a little more confidence in your voice. There are no right and wrong ways to listen to affirmations. Just go with what feels right.
  5. Use your own voice to increase your confidence, self-love, and belief in yourself.

I strongly believe that if you add the use of affirmations for depression to your mental health treatment, it will really inspire you to become a more positive version of you.

I have been using the ThinkUp app for a long time now and it works for me, so why don’t you give it a try? Download the ThinkUp app today and let us know how it went for you.

Soup of Happiness

What is happiness?
Can happiness be measured?
Is it possible to be in a state of everlasting happiness?
Happiness is a state of mind. It’s a practice, a concept, and something that is beyond measure. There are things and people that make us happy but true happiness can only enter our lives when we allow it to.

Yes, it can be controlled and the only person who can control it is you! The problem is that most people believe it’s things and other people that makes us happy..

When you bring in a paradigm shift towards your understanding of happiness and realize that nothing and no one can give you happiness, except you, then you will be in a forever state of happiness.

Happiness as a soup

Let’s look at it this way- happiness is a delectable soup that requires 7 unique ingredients. If you want to perfectly cook it and make every day full of flavor and aroma, you need to bring in these 7 ingredients.

While every ingredient in itself is capable of achieving happiness, a combination of all 7 is the perfect mix!

Are you ready to cook up some happiness?

Here are the 7 ingredients you will need.

1. Look at the Fraction as a Whole: Embrace What You Have

Take it as an 80-20 formula!

When something gives you 80% joy and 20% disappointment or unhappiness, focus on the 80% and look at it like it 100%.

For example, when you have a baby, 80% happiness comes in the form of love and 20% comes in the form of sleepless nights.  Expect only up to 80% from any situation. Change the way you think and train yourself to love the unperfect.

Every time you want life to be perfect, change your perspective and accept the 80% as if it’s 100%.

Most of the time, expecting a perfect situation will bring only suffering and disappointments. Train yourself to look at an imperfect situation as a perfect one.

2. Make a Difference!

There are so many people around us who need help. Donating money to a cause or volunteering to help those in need brings in a sense of satisfaction and joy that is unmatched to happiness received by material things. You can help someone with good advice or just your empathy.

Try it, you will feel much better.

3. Learn and Grow Every day

Never stop learning and never stop growing as an individual. Allow new things and experiences to open up your mind to newer possibilities. Create yourself every day and do something you may have never done or even thought of. Never stop expanding your horizons.

4. Make Someone’s Day, Every Day!

Every day of life is a new challenge and a new opportunity to help someone or make someone’s day. Reach out to anyone around you who may need your help. Be open and approachable and be someone that people seek when in need.

5. Bring out the Child Within!

All of us have a little child inside who is waiting to be let out!

Play, sing, dance, run, laugh, love, paint, create… Don’t stop the child from being a child. Embrace the innocent and fun-loving child in you.

6. Reflect and Introspect

Sometimes our happiness gets hidden or buried under other emotions.

Take out time to just relax and reflect about life. Talk to yourself and slowly unburden the mind until it finds its way to the top. Remove everything that is hiding and make it shine through.

7. Practice Positivity

Happiness comes through practice.

When you consciously allow the positive thoughts to take over the negative and make a choice to only allow joy in your life, you will receive it!

Every moment gives us a chance to be positive or negative, so choose to be positive. One way to practice positivity is by using positive thinking apps like the ThinkUp app.

The ThinkUp app has a lot of powerful affirmations for women that you can download and recite to yourself every day to help you get back on your feet whenever you’re starting to feel a little down. Download it for free from the App Store and Google Play and find self-affirmations that you think match your inner desires best.

As you probably know, happiness already exists within you; all you have to do is find it! Think positive, allow only positivity to rule your life, and don’t forget to pass the good vibes forward by sharing tips on what makes you feel happy and inspired. The comment section down below is all yours.

How to Increase Your Life Satisfaction

All we want in life is to find satisfaction. We are raised to believe that more money, a better job, or finding true love is the secret to leading a more satisfied life. But the answer isn’t found in material objects or other people, but rather within ourselves, who we are, and what we do.

Satisfaction is a skill that needs to be developed by practicing

Satisfaction is a skill that needs to be developed by practicing, like our other muscles or skills we may have. In order to find satisfaction, first, try to develop gratitude and gratefulness as a skill. Complaining all the time and focusing on challenges will decrease your energy level. Furthermore, it will continue to make your problem grow.
If you would like to stop the process of being unsatisfied, I suggest you start finding positive things in everything you do. Try to learn how to focus on the good things and practice that skill daily.

Sharing My Story

While I was in my 20’s, I received my degree and started to work for a high tech company as an engineer. I earned a lot of money (especially for a recent graduate), had a boyfriend that I loved, and had a nice job. But my soul felt that something was still missing in my life.

For the first time, I felt that something was “wrong” with me.

Start finding positive things in everything you do

“How could it be that I have everything I wanted and yet I still feel miserable”?

”How could it be that all of creation stands before me and yet I am still complaining?

And I came to the realization — this job probably wasn’t my purpose. After twenty years, I looked at things from a different perspective and that’s when things made a turn for the better.

So, my suggestion is to find happiness within yourself. The outside circumstances will never make you happy if you are not trained to be happy. Instead of finding reasons to be unhappy, focus your mind on the things that make you feel uplifted, stronger, and empowered.

Life doesn’t need to be perfect.

A great exercise that can help you increase self-satisfaction is the use of daily self-affirmations. To do this:

  • Download the ThinkUp app from the AppStore.
  • Write down 10 things that you are grateful for.
  • Choose music that you like.
  • Listen to your personalized self-affirmations at least 20 minutes a day or before going to sleep.

Keep using these positive affirmations every day, and after one month, you will be able to look at things a bit differently. If you want, you can even share your progress down below to inspire other members of the community.

5 Ways To Overcome Sleeping Problems

In this busy world, sleeping problems have become a common phenomenon. According to studies done at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, over 40 million struggle with insomnia or sleeping problems.

If you are one of them, there are five activities you can try to help solve the issue.

1. Use breathing exercises to release tension

You’d be surprised how much you’ve been holding in without your knowledge. Whenever you do this, your body tenses up and puts you in a negative space.

To fix this, release everything you’ve accumulated within then take deep breaths to allow fresh air to come in. Do this repeatedly whenever you get the chance to, including before bedtime. Soon, you might begin to notice improvements in your sleeping problems.

2. Watch a funny movie and laugh your heart out

Laughter truly is medicine for the soul.

Even if you’re not in the mood to laugh, try watching funny movies before bedtime. Watching an old favorite movie with good memories can be like spending time with old friends. You can also try a new flick to get something new to laugh at. This will lighten your mood and help you release your stress.

3. Ease sleeping problems by practicing meditation

A lot of times, the mind is filled with the stress of the day. Instead of holding everything in, it’s better to let go of it. Many people use meditation to help form a quieter mind, and you can use it too.

There are many useful apps like Headspace, Calm, or Deepak Chopra and Oprah Winfrey’s meditation apps which I found very relaxing and useful for quieting the mind.

4. Start a bedtime routine

If you normally take a shower in the morning, try making it part of your bedtime routine instead.

After you take a hot shower, put on some relaxing music and clean, comfortable nightclothes. A consistent routine lets the body know that it is time for bed.

You can also listen to relaxing music to help you ease into a peaceful night’s sleep.

5. Use positive thinking apps to free yourself from negative thoughts

Banish negative self-talk. It will be difficult to relax if you won’t stop beating yourself up over your perceived mistakes.

To reprogram the mind for positivity, try self-affirmation apps like ThinkUp.

ThinkUp helps you change your thoughts from negative to positive. They have plenty of powerful self-affirmations and you can either choose from a variety of affirmations for women or you can add your own.

Download it for free from the App Store or Google Play today and listen to your first set of self-affirmations and be on your way towards solving your sleeping problems.

If you found something that worked really well for you, don’t forget to share them down below so other members of the community can try them too.

7 Ways to Increase Self-Esteem

Do you find yourself wondering how you can increase self-esteem?

If you are prone to harsh self-judgments or negative self-talk, you may hold yourself back from happiness and opportunities.

The unspoken words inside our heads can shape how we think about everything around us. When those words are negative, they can become embedded deep within our brains and make our lives harder.

7 ways to Increase Self-esteem

1. Change your negative self-talk into something positive

One of the best ways to increase self-esteem is by starting the day with positive affirmations. Simple “I am” statements can have so much power. Think about what is decreasing your self-esteem, and create powerful affirmations to counter it. Repeat your self-affirmations throughout the day, and you will eliminate self-limiting dialogue.

With the recordings and relaxing music of your choice, you can use this app to create a personal meditation that inspires you. Try out the free version of this helpful tool and embrace your inner strength.

2. Try Self-affirmation Apps

One way to reprogram your mind for positivity is by using self-affirmation apps like the ThinkUp app. ThinkUp is a self-help app which enables you to increase self-esteem and develop a healthier mindset in general by allowing you to record your voice reading affirmations.

3. Recognize Your Uniqueness

There is no one on this planet like you. Consider your strengths. Maybe you are creative, or your work ethic is driven by your powerful story. Do you have a strong passion for something? Is there something that you do so well that other people can’t help but take notice? Own that uniqueness, and use it to look at the world in a new way.

4. Reward Yourself

When something goes well because of your actions, treat yourself. Often, we don’t take the time to give ourselves a pat on the back. A reward doesn’t have to be lavish, but by appreciating yourself, you are establishing a practice of self-love.

If someone notices your work and offers a compliment, accept it. You have won their esteem, and they recognize your value. Know that you have done something well, and use that to boost your sense of self.

6. Read Inspirational Books or movies

Reading the inspiring stories of others can motivate a shift in your mindset. If you need help owning your greatness, read books or see inspirational movies.

I personally like to listen to inspirational lectures on YouTube while I am exercising. Through hearing about the struggles that others have overcome, you may find strength. Choose a sentence or phrase from an inspirational work, and create a meditation around it.

7. Find Positive Friends

The people with whom we share our space can impact how we feel about ourselves. Seek the people that accept you for who you are. These positive people will encourage you to let your light shine, and they will reflect back the light that you put forth.

Working on yourself will improve your quality of life and will help you to increase self-esteem. Soon, you will notice that new opportunities arise as you learn to love and accept yourself.

Try it.

Download the ThinkUp app today and start with a few self-affirmations designed to increase self-esteem, then let us know your progress as you go on.
